The following are actual letters and emails received from ASPTEA members. Several years ago I was ordered by upper management to blacklist 28 people on an approved hiring list with no explanation. When I respectfully questioned this directive, I was demoted. I learned that being a good employee and following the Ethics Policy doesn’t always count. I’m glad I was able to turn to ASPTEA to help me address these issues and work to improve the way management does business. I was so impressed with ASPTEA’s integrity that I ran for the Board! I never thought it was necessary to join. I followed the rules, excelled at my job, got great PMG’s, and won a City Managers Excellence Award. But when I tried to promote, I was too valuable, my supervisor didn’t want me to leave and made it difficult for me to interview. When I became a member, I received valuable assistance from ASPTEA and have since been promoted. My new supervisor is very pleased with my work, I continue to get great PMG’s and I am very happy with my new position. Thanks ASPTEA. Anonomous
The City of Phoenix is a large organization. If you are unlucky and become part of a department where management has an adversarial attitude toward employees, no matter how good an employee you are you may find your performance reviews and promotion opportunities problematic. When I worked for the City of Phoenix, I and other employees in my department received valuable support and mediation assistance from ASPTEA. The modest monthly dues were the best money I ever spent. I was assisted by caring professionals who believe that everyone is entitled to their day in court, and have a right to be heard. Members of ASPTEA have an advantage in the COP workplace. Possible termination. Colleen, I just wanted to let you know that I just met with my boss for my PMG. Everything went very well here. I finally passed my probation. Thank God. I am forwarding you the PMG Draft that she sent me this morning before the meeting. This is the type of PMG that I used to receive from previous employers before I worked in DSD. So now you may understand that why I said I feel that I am back to a NORMAL life when you called me last time. Colleen, I would like to thank you again for all of your support and your help during my difficult time at DSD. Without Ron and your support I would not have today’s result. I know that the word “Thank You” is not enough for what you have done for me, but I want to let you know that I am very appreciative all your support. Please forward my thanks and best regards to Ron Have a great day, BN Date 08/07/08
